Another Week, Another Week In Quarentine

A blood test today revealed that my ANC is down to 90. Not 90 thousand. Not 90 million. Just 90. That’s a measure of my white blood cells. Its basically indicates I don’t have enough to fight off a rainbow.

Needless to say, I’ve been given some “strong recommendations” from my doctors not to leave my house for the next week.

Another week without chemotherapy. Oh, and I’m back up on the methadone because my back has been hurting so bad. Debilitatingly bad, even–causing me to be unable to sleep or function as normal. Does this have anything to do with my ANC? It could.

Oh, and staying in my house to protect my weak, immune system-less body seems particularly silly considering how sick my dad is. The poor guy has been coughing and hacking all over the place, and now he’s got me to worry about (more than normal). Yeah, stress and worry: that’s gonna be a great way for both of us to get better.

Sigh.

Confined to my house, quite literally.

I went to clinic for a CBC (a very basic blood function test) this morning that revealed my ANC is in the 200 range. This means that my body’s defenses are so low that I’m not supposed to be around people (or eat raw fruit!). Unfortunately (fortunately?), I didn’t find out about this until after I’d gone to a very close friend’s family member’s funeral. And Burlington Coat Factory.

On the one hand, I’m glad I didn’t get the news until after the funeral, so that I could be there for my friend and his family. I can’t go sit shiva with them now, which is frustrating, but again, at least I made it to the funeral. Burlington Coat Factory, on the other hand, I think I probably could’ve done without.

I’m going to be on Alice 105.9 FM at 5PM MST tonight as part of their 36 Hours For Kids Radiothon, which, in past years, has raised a tremendous amount of money for The Children’s Hospital. To learn more about the fundraiser (and to listen to me live on the web if you’re not in Denver), visit Alice’s website.

Nothing else to report yet.

Won’t be leaving the hospital today. Won’t be leaving tomorrow. Amylace and Lipace are trending up, the wrong way.

Bummer.

Stupid universe.

Hopefully out by Sunday, and involvement in some radio stuff.

We’re shooting for me to be out of the hospital tomorrow. Luckily, we caught the pancreatitis early this time, and it didn’t hemorrhage (knock on wood), and is healing well.

Unrelated to this, I was in a promo for ALICE 105.9 FM’s annual 36 hour fundraising event for the Children’s Hospital. I look sort of like a deer in the headlights, but check it out here if you want to see me looking totally out of my element.

I will be on the actual, real radio this Thursday, February 12, for a live interview at 5pm on ALICE. They’re broadcasting live for the hospital, which I will hopefully have to drive back to, because I will have been out of it for days.

NYC vs. Pancreatitis
Thursday February 05th 2009, 11:58 pm
Filed under: Better Than The Machine, Leukemia, NYC

Given this option, the option between going to New York City, seeing old familiar friendly faces, filming with funny people, and fondling Amylou OR being admitted to the hospital for Pancreatitis, I’d go with NYC any day. Yet, here I am. The Seventh Floor, an in-patient the day I was supposed to head to NYC. I will probably be here for at least a few days, not eating or drinking, and willing my Pancreas better as best I can. Apparently my gall bladder is suspiciously enlarged, too. Who knows what the two are plotting together? Something bile, that’s for sure.

When I got to my room, I found that it had been decorated for me. The nurses had found out that I was supposed to be in NYC today, and so they NYC-ified my room, right down to the garbage all over the floor. Thanks a lot, guys, it really means a lot to me.

I will be in New York City from this Thursday to the following Tuesday. I already have some weekend plans with Amy, but would really like to see everyone else, too. Maybe we’ll have a night at a bar near where I’m staying or something. We’ll figure something out!

Hooray!
